Theater at Darrow

MediaLibrary#965In arts classes and in performances of the Darrow Theater Workshop, Darrow students explore, experience, and develop technical skills in all aspects of stagecraft, from acting and directing to lighting, sound, costume, and set design.

Theater at Darrow is student-driven and collaborative by design. Students not involved in competitive sports may choose to participate in theater productions as their designated team activity.

Another hallmark of theater at Darrow is the breadth of performance opportunities for novice and experienced theater enthusiasts alike. Each year features a variety of performancMediaLibrary#966es, including a major dramatic play or musical, the medieval-themed winter solstice celebration known as Winter Revels, and the Playwright contest that results in the production of one-act plays written and directed by students. Coffee Houses and other more informal opportunities are additional outlets for students with a love for the stage.

In recent years Darrow students have staged a nuanced and atmospheric Ordinary People, Romeo and Juliet set in a Gotham-style modern metropolis, and The Sound of Music with design and directorial decisions emphasizing the conflict between the ideal and the real.
