Visual Arts at Darrow
Darrow’s visual arts
program supports the School’s hands-on approach to learning and the
commitment to developing a variety of talents in each student. The
program is rich with a diverse faculty and sequence of course offerings,
made possible by a school-wide commitment to the arts. Teachers
encourage students to learn the techniques and skills necessary to take
risks in their work and to try something new.
Courses in basic
studio arts, drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, and woodworking
encourage students to explore their interests in both two- and
three-dimensional media. Classes are taught in the state-of-the art
Joline Arts Center, the newest facility on campus. All students must
complete at least four courses (2 credits) in the arts, but most go
beyond this requirement.
All seniors at Darrow participate in the Senior Art Show. As the short film below depicts, Darrow students have the opportunity to dabble in a number of different media and to delve deeply into advanced courses where they can produce finely crafted pieces of furniture, technically challenging ceramic works, vivid paintings and prints, eye-catching sculptures, and so much more!
