Ann Lee Cottage Ann Lee Cottage, named after the Shakers' founder, is the smallest of Darrow's three boys dormitories. The Ministry Building The Ministry Building houses the Infirmary and Darrow School's Health Services, including the school nurse and the school counselor (a licensed psychologist). The Science Building The Science Building, adorned with four wind turbines that generate electricity for the school, contains science classrooms and laboratories. Because of Darrow's hands-on approach to education, students' discovery frequently takes place outside--in the woods, at the reservoir, knee-deep in the Kinderhook Creek, in the Living Machine, out in the fields, and any place that science can come alive. Neale House Built in 1827 and registered as the Shakers' Church Family Office and Store until 1938, Neale House is Darrow School's largest boys dormitory. Wickersham Wickersham is Darrow School's main academic and administrative building. It houses Darrow’s Admissions Office, College Counselor, Head of School, Director of Studies, Dean of Students, Director of Facilities, Advancement Office, Business Office, and School Store. Wickersham is also home to classrooms for English, history, foreign language, math, and tutorial, as well as Bethards meeting space. The Maple Sugar House The Maple Sugar House serves an important role in the Darrow community--it's where Darrow's own maple syrup is made. Maple sap is collected from various locations on campus, primarily at the northeastern end of campus, and boiled here. Darrow's syrup, produced by Darrow's Hands-to-Work Sugaring Crew, is a signature feature of the school's commitment to sustainability, cooperation, and community. Heyniger Memorial Library The Second Meeting House, built in 1824, houses the 15,000-volume Heyniger Memorial Library. Holdings also include extensive multimedia resources, including audio books, videos, DVDs, and CDs. The Library subscribes to 30 general and scholarly periodicals, five daily newspapers, and 21 general and specific electronic databases including encyclopedias, Spanish-language materials, literature, newspapers and periodicals which provide access to thousands of searchable periodicals and reference works Brethren's Dormitory Brethren's Dormitory for girls boasts the largest rooms and most central location on campus. Built in the 1850s, Brethren's was once a central Shaker workshop. Meacham Meacham is one of two dormitories for girls at Darrow School. The Tannery Once the site of the Mount Lebanon Shakers' tannery, The Tannery serves as a ceremonial and performance space for the Darrow School community. In addition to Convocation and Graduation ceremonies, The Tannery hosts numerous student performances throughout the year, Darrow's annual all-school prom, Friday meetings, and the world-class musicians of Tannery Pond Concerts. Joline Arts Center The light-filled 12,000-square-foot Joline Arts Center is home to studios for painting, drawing, ceramics, and woodworking, a photography lab, a multimedia graphics lab, and galleries. The Dairy Barn The Dairy Barn is central to daily life and student activities. It houses the Student Center for games, movies, and other recreation, the Dining Room, the Theater, and the Fitness Center and Gymnasium. The Samson Environmental Center The Samson Environmental Center houses the Living Machine, the first all-natural wastewater treatment center at a school. The SEC is a hub for Darrow’s sustainability efforts. Hinckley House Built in 1857 as an Infirmary, Hinckley House is a dormitory for boys.
