Girls Basketball

In addition to learning the movement, hard work, and flow of the game itself, Darrow girls learn that there is strength in the team spirit they create. Known through the years as a competitive team, the girls have a tight community. Regardless of a previous experience, girls are welcome to the team and form bonds based on shared work, and shared rewards.

    Darrow Women's Basketball traveled to Poughkeepsie to open the 2018 portion of their season, dropping a 51-29 decision to the 2-time defending league champions. Junior guard Crystal notched 17 points, including 3 3-pointers, 7 rebounds and 7 steals to lead Darrow. Senior guard Jayme played a strong game as the primary point guard and added 4 points and a nifty assist. Junior forward Tyler scored 8 points and pulled down 9 rebounds to lead Darrow in that category. First year Sakina had 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Junior Naomi played tremendous defense and had a sweet assist as she earned expanded PT in upcoming games. Darrow hosts PDS at D's House in its next game.

    Girls Basketball vs. PDS (home)

    Led by senior tri-captain Jayme heading a pressing defense, Darrow Women's Basketball earned a 37-17 victory over visiting PDS in D's House. Jayme scored 2 points, had a nice assist and made 3 steals, while keeping the PDS player off balance all day with strong pressure defense. Junior forwards Crystal and Tyler combined for 31 points (16 and 15 respectively) to lead the Darrow scoring. Crystal had an incredible 14 steals along with 9 rebounds, while Tyler had 11 rebounds, 3 steal and 2 sharp assists. Junior guard Meredith partnered with Jayme in leading the strong defensive effort. Junior center Leah anchored the back end of the press, had a nice basket and combined with Jayme to set up freshman Sakina for her first Darrow basket on her birthday, no less. Sakina also had 5 rebounds and completed a steal. Junior forward Naomi played strong minutes off the bench, while freshman center Emelia provided vital minutes in relief of Leah in the paint.

    On the back end of back-to-back games, Darrow Women's Basketball earned a 36-15 win on the road over Emma Willard (JV). Crystal '19 dropped 19 points (3 3's), pulled down 11 rebounds and generated 7 steals to lead the Ducks. Tyler '19 added 2 3's (11 points total), 7 rebounds, a career high 5 assists and 7 steals, while Jayme '18 (4 points), Leah '19 (2 points, 1 thunderous block) and Meredith '19 provided strong support, particularly on the defensive end of the floor. Emelia '21 and Sakina '21 gave good minutes off the very short bench for Darrow. Royanne '18 did an excellent job as acting assistant coach. Jai '19 continued to deliver an all star performance day in, day out as team manager.

    Girls Basketball vs. Marvelwood (home)

    Darrow Women's Basketball returned to action after a snow-induced hiatus, successfully defending D's House v league rival Marvelwood 49-34. Crystal and Tyler posted near identical lines of 22 points each, for both juniors a career high. Both players had two 3 pointers. Tyler had 15 rebounds and Crystal pulled down 10. Senior guard Jayme led the defensive attack, played a full 32 minutes, had 3 nice assists, 4 steals and added 3 points. Leah drew the tough defensive assignment of covering the opponent's best (and tallest!) player and did a good job. Meredith '19 played good D and grabbed a couple of steals, as well. Royanne '18 played her first significant minutes of the season after a long rehab and snagged 4 rebounds, had some good shot opportunities and earned a trip to the free throw line. Naomi '19 was a defensive stalwart off the bench for the short handed Ducks, who nonetheless were able to gut out the victory. DWB returns to action on Monday in D's House v the Doane Stuart ThunderChicks.
