Darrow Boys' Soccer won Monday afternoon, defeating Faith Christian 6-1 in Poughkeepsie. After a wake up call by Faith Christian in the 4th minute, Darrow scored 6 unanswered goals. Thatcher '20 scored the first of his Darrow career, while Connor '17, Luke '18, Eric '17 and Taylor '19 each contributed one (and a self-inflicted goal by FC). Eric '17 assisted twice, with Taylor '19 and Chris '17 each adding an assist. Paul '17 had six saves in goal on the day.
In a case of "déjà vu al over again," Darrow dropped the game 1-4. Taylor '18 scored an unassisted goal for the Ducks.
The Darrow Cross Country team traveled to the Marvelwood Invitational yesterday. The Darrow boys placed first out of five teams. They were led by Kevin '17 who took first overall. Also medaling for the boys were Seth '19 in 8th and Johnny '17 in 9th. The Darrow girls were also victorious. They were led by Greer '17 who took second overall, and Jayme '18 in third. Also medaling were Cassidy '18 in 5th, KayKay '17 in 8th, and Eliza '18 in 9th.
Darrow who traveled to Poughkeepsie and defeated Oakwood Friends Academy 3-2. Jason '17 scored first with an assist by Marco '18. Eric '17 took the score to 2-0 when he scored off a penalty kick. Nick '18 finished off the scoring by putting in a rebound. Darrow soccer returns to action this Saturday against Marvelwood at homecoming.
Saturday's game at Darrow produced a convincing 6-3 win. Captain Zion '17 opened the scoring in the first minute, with Luke '18 adding a second in the following minute. Eric '17 scored in the fifteenth before Luke added three more goals to complete the scoring. This takes Darrow to 6-5 in the HVAL, and 6-6 overall.
It was another first half of attack for Darrow Boys' soccer on their way to a 6-0 win over Faith Christian Academy. Connor '17 started the scoring and contributed with two assists, while Eric '17 scored twice and assisted. Taylor '18 had a hat trick with two goals in the first half and one in the closing seconds of the second half to complete the scoring. Captain Zion '17 got an assist on one of Taylor's goals. The win takes Darrow Boys' soccer to 7-6 overall, finishing HVAL regular season play at 7-5. They play at Hoosac on Wednesday, then finish the regular season hosting Watkinson on Saturday. HVAL Playoffs begin next Monday.
Darrow came out strong in Hoosick Falls today, with Heron '20 opening the scoring in the 8th minute against the Hoosac School in a non-league match. In a back and forth game over the 90 minutes, Hoosac tied the score in the 65th minute, resulting in a tremendous fight by the back line of Chris '17, Henry '18, Sam '18 and Vincent '18. Connor '17 and Marco '17 provided steel in the middle of the field, while Thatcher '20, Nick '18 and Zion '17 attacked from the flanks. Eventually, it was a solo effort by Luke '18 in the 87th minute which secured the victory over Hoosac, the first that anyone can remember in a long time. Darrow ends the regular season on Saturday, hosting Watkinson.
The Darrow cross country team saved their best performance for their final meet. The Ducks traveled to Storm King School for the HVAL championships on Wednesday. The girls team missed winning the league championship by a single point, but not for lack of effort. All 7 Darrow girls ran well in finishing second to a very strong team from Oakwood friends, it was easily the girls strongest performance of the season. The Darrow girls were led by medalists Greer '17 in 3rd, Cassidy '18 In 6th, Jayme '18 in 7th, and Julia '20 in 9th. Kay Kay '17 rounded out the scorers with 16th overall.
The Darrow boys placed a solid second out of 8 boys teams, besting the third place team by 38 points. They were led, as usual, by Kevin '17 who capped his high school career by placing 5th out of 71 finishers. Also finishing well for the Ducks were Seth '19 who improved his time on the course by 3 minutes to place 11th overall, and Johnny '17 who also finished his Darrow running career with 13th place. Rounding out the scoring for the Ducks were Dylan '19, 19th, and Braden '18, who ran his finest race yet to anchor our scoring five with 20th overall.
Darrow closed out it regular season with a heartbreaker against Watkinson, a 2-3 loss at home. The scoring opened with Luke converting a penalty kick in the 1st minute, before Darrow gave up a penalty kick for Watkinson to equalize. Through an individual effort, Luke scored again in the 43rd minute, allowing Darrow to take the lead into half time. Unfortunately, for all the effort Darrow put forth, Darrow conceded another penalty kick to allow Watkinson to equalize again, then Watkinson scored late to seal the win. Darrow begins post-season HVAL play on Monday, 11/7, at home vs. Oakwood Friends.
Darrow closed out the season with a 0-1 loss to Oakwood in the HVAL Quarterfinals. For all the work of forwards Luke '18, Taylor '17 and Connor '17, a breakthrough just would not happen. Eric '17, Zion '7, Thatcher '20, Jason '17, and Nick '18 all worked hard through the midfield, while Chris '17, Sam '18, Henry '18, Vincent '18 and Jared '20 held the back line and gave Paul '17 the support he needed. Darrow finished the season with a record of 8-8.
