In the team’s season opener, Darrow Lacrosse traveled to Bethlehem, Connecticut to take on the Phoenixes of Woodhall School in a spirited match that culminated in a 22-6 Darrow victory. Darrow’s returning players hit the ground running, ably anchoring the team at defense, midfield and attack, and showing noticeable improvement since last year. Although almost half of the Darrow players are new to the sport and were playing in their very first lacrosse game, a spectator would have been hard pressed to tell these rookies from the veterans. The new team members played their first game with commendable intensity, aggressiveness and determination, contributing significantly to the team’s effectiveness everywhere on the field and getting a crash course in how to play this sport under game conditions. Thanks to their heads-up play, combined with steadfast support from the midfield, Darrow’s attack unit had a banner day, accounting for all 22 of the team’s goals. The majority of Darrow’s goals came off of assists, as the team showed its unselfish commitment to winning by passing and by finding the open man. Playing in his first ever lacrosse game, rookie goalkeeper Felix ’18 made an impressive debut between the pipes, making numerous saves and gaining confidence in his ability to stop shots and initiate successful clears (in a new Darrow tradition, Felix was recognized by his teammates with the game award). Darrow is now gearing up to host Storm King on Wednesday, April 19th in the team’s home opener. Having lost to Storm King in the league championship last May, the Darrow players are eager for a rematch and optimistic about their continued success as the season unfolds.
Cancelled due to weather.

In a rain-soaked home opener that pitted the Ducks against both a strong opponent and the elements, the Darrow stickmen battled heroically but came out on the wrong end of a 3-14 score against Storm King. Despite holding a 2-1lead at the end of the first quarter, Darrow wasn't able to convert its offensive possessions into goals, and struggled to contain a potent Storm King attack. Darrow's scoring came from co-captain Connor '17 with one goal and four year starter Frank, who played all three field positions at different points in the game, with two. Darrow goalkeeper Felix '18 had another strong showing, continuing to grow in confidence and skill between the pipes. Another bright spot of this game was the continued improvement and dramatic on-field impact of Darrow's new players. Kudos to the entire Darrow squad for a stalwart and determined effort under difficult conditions. The Ducks now turn their attention to preparing to host Woodstock next Saturday.
Thanks to a strong performance by the entire Darrow squad, particularly the new players on the team, the Duck laxmen prevailed over visiting Woodstock Day School by a score of 11-4. Darrow displayed noteworthy improvement in numerous aspects of the team's game play, including passing, clearing, ground balls and faceoffs. The team also used this game to improve its proficiency in subbing on the fly. Darrow's scoring came from six different players, including attackmen Frank ’17 and Luke ’18 with three goals each, co-captain and midfielder Sam ’18 with two, co-captain and attackman Connor ’17 with one, co-captain Kevin ‘17, scoring on a long stick clearing run from defense, and midfielder Jared ’20, scoring the first goal of his Darrow career. Sam and Luke led the team in ground balls, scooping up eleven and ten respectively to help Darrow stay on the offensive. The Darrow team came out of the game feeling confident about its continuing improvement and its growing cohesion on the field, and is eager to take on Marvelwood at home next Wednesday.
