Darrow Lacrosse’s 2018 Senior Day was made even more celebratory by a long overdue and hard-fought 11-7 victory over the visiting Cougars of Storm King School. Given Darrow’s record against Storm King - over Darrow's last nine games against Storm King, over the past five seasons, Darrow came close several times but had not won a game, being outscored 30-105 - this win was truly a historic one for the Darrow Lacrosse program. Senior Day began with the team’s eight senior players leading the team to the field in the traditional pre-game silent processional, leading the team’s warm-up, acting as honorary game captains, and starting the game at their respective positions. These eight seniors, including captains Sam, Louis and Luke, played the majority of the game, and provided a backbone of skill, composure and determination that set the standard for the entire team’s play during the game. Senior goalkeeper Felix had another strong outing, notching fifteen saves and initiating nine successful clears out of eleven opportunities. Darrow’s scoring came from senior attack Luke with six goals, senior midfielder Sam with three, senior attack Maddie with one, and senior midfielder Leo with his first Darrow career goal. While the team’s senior contingent carried the brunt of this game, every member of the team contributed to this victory. In a game that became quite intense and heated at points, the Darrow players maintained their poise and sportsmanship on the field throughout. Darrow now begins preparations for postseason play, with a league semi-final match away against Marvelwood on Monday.
