Two seniors named Commended Students by National Merit Scholarship program

On Thursday, September 21, Darrow's Head of School Simon Holzapfel publicly congratulated two seniors on being recognized for exceptional academic promise by the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).

Will ’18 and Mira ’18 each received notification from the program that their performance on the 2016 Preliminary SAT/NMSP Test last October, qualified them as Commended Students. Of 1.6 million students who took the test nationwide, only 34,000 were named as Commended Students.

"I'm proud and honored to present Will and Mira with their letters of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program," Holzapfel said. "These two exceptionally accomplished students represent the finest Darrow has to offer, and are shining examples of the academic excellence that is at the core of our mission."

A statement from the NMSP that accompanied the notification said, "Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation."
