Meet the Advancement Team

Craig Arthur Westcott
Assistant Head of School for Advancement and External Relations, Sustainability Coordinator

Building on extensive experiences as an outdoor and naturalist educator in his early career, Craig has been an independent school educator since 1996, and joined the Darrow faculty and Administration in July 2000 after completing a graduate degree in Education. He has served the school in various roles including Curriculum Coordinator, Director of the Samson Environmental Center, Director of Hands-to-Work, and Language Department Chair, and teaching in the Science, Language, and History Departments.

Joining the Advancement Department in 2010 as the the Assistant Director of the growing.greener sustainability initiative, Craig's role has evolved into direction of all aspects of the Advancement efforts, including alumni relations, outreach, events, fundraising, communications and marketing, and more. Remaining connected to the student- and faculty-centered aspects of the school, Craig's role as Sustainability Coordinator supports co-curricular programs that facilitate a unique sense of place that prepares community members for leadership in sustainability. Craig lives on campus with his two sons, and serves as both an Administrator on Duty and Ministry House Parent.

Lawrence Klein, Esq.
Director of Institutional Advancement, General Counsel

Lawrence has a range of unique experience in development, fundraising, and community outreach, especially through the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York City, which he founded in 2001, and for which he served as chairman and president. Lawrence's legal background as in-house counsel for high-tech companies gives him invaluable perspective into contracts and business agreements, allowing him to also serve as Darrow’s General Counsel.

Lawrence’s primary responsibilities are Darrow’s Major Gifts and Planned Giving Legacy programs, and he helps to manage capital campaign initiatives and other fundraising efforts. As part of his plan to meet Darrow alumni, Lawrence travels far and near, including travel to Asia, Europe, and the continental United States. He volunteers on the boards of several local nonprofits, curates exhibits around the globe, is a character in the “Dick Tracy” cartoon strip, and is also a competitive UTV racer. Lawrence lives in Pittsfield, MA, with his wife, Sarah, and two children.

Steven Ricci
Director of Communications

Year Appointed: 2011

Steve joined Darrow in 2011, bringing with him extensive experience in the field of nonprofit institutional communications and marketing. After beginning his career in journalism as a reporter, editor, and photographer for a number of magazines, trade journals, and daily and weekly newspapers, he began working in institutional communications for universities, schools, museums, and agencies serving nonprofits.

At Darrow, Steve is responsible for internal and external communications, including media relations, public relations, website communications, advertising, social media, e-newsletters, and printed marketing materials. He also serves as editor of Peg Board, Darrow's alumni magazine. Steve and his wife, Rhea, live in Averill Park, NY.

Amanda Chase
Advancement Associate
Year Appointed: 2016

Amanda joined Darrow in 2016 as an Advancement Associate and has a background in banking, office management, and data analysis. She has utilized those skills in positions in educational settings for the past 11 years, including Miss Hall’s School and UMass Amherst. Amanda is passionate about yoga and teaches classes in Pittsfield, where she lives with her daughter, boyfriend, and dog, Burt Reynolds.

At Darrow, Amanda’s responsibilities include maintaining the Advancement Office database, creating reports, and analyzing fundraising data to inform future planning efforts.

Sarah Frederick
Associate Director of Annual Fund and Event Coordinator
B.B.A., Marketing, B.A., Communications, University of Massachusetts, Amherst
Year Appointed: 2012

Sarah came to Darrow to assist with the growing.greener initiative and has since joined the department full-time. Coming from a diverse background in event planning, she has worked in restaurants and the catering industry for more than five years. Before joining Darrow, Sarah utilized her event-planning skills in the nonprofit sector as the marketing manager for the Springfield Business Improvement District, and as an event coordinator, planner, and marketer for the City of Pittsfield, MA.

At Darrow, Sarah plans and coordinates a number of campus events such as Family Weekends, Reunion, and Commencement. She also oversees summer programs and rentals by outside parties, such as camps and weddings. Sarah lives in Cheshire, MA, with her husband, Ryan, and their two daughters.
