The Small Boarding School Association (SBSA) honors Andy Vadnais with the 2025 Gorman Award!

We’re incredibly proud to announce that our very own Head of School, Andy Vadnais, has been honored with this year’s Gorman Award at the 2025 Small Boarding School Association (#SBSA ) Conference!

The Gorman Award is a big deal in the world of small boarding schools—it recognizes someone who has gone above and beyond to support and champion schools like ours. And if you know Andy, you know there’s no one more deserving. From leading with heart to always putting Darrow first, he truly lives and breathes the spirit of the Mountainside every single day.

In his acceptance speech, he shared—“I’m incredibly grateful and humbled to receive the Michèle Gorman Award. Small boarding schools are a true haven—for students, faculty, and families alike. I’m honored to be part of this vibrant community and feel a deep responsibility to all those who came before us in this important work.”

Darrow School Enters Partnership with
United Soccer Group—Names New Head Coach

New Lebanon, N.Y., July 10th, 2024—Darrow School is excited to announce a pioneering partnership with the United Soccer Group (USG). This innovative collaboration, which harnesses Darrow's educational leadership and USG's youth soccer development expertise, is set to revolutionize the model of Prep School Soccer. It will provide our students with unique and unparalleled opportunities, igniting a new era in the soccer world at Darrow.

In addition to partnering with USG to bring athletes to the School, its co-founder, Rich Powell, accepted the role of Head Coach at Darrow. Hailing from the United Kingdom, Coach Powell has enjoyed a long and successful career in soccer. Since arriving in the U.S. in 2006, Coach Powell has held roles of Academy Director of the Soccer Domain Academy and Director of Coaching at the Pittsfield Soccer Club. From 2017, he has been the Head Boys Soccer Coach at Salisbury School in Salisbury, CT. Coach Powell has shown an ability to develop many student-athletes throughout his coaching career, guiding them to all three levels of college soccer. His vast network of connections will greatly assist Darrow Soccer players in pursuing their goal of becoming college athletes.

Kris Magargal, Director of Darrow Athletics, discussed the partnership. "Rich and USG offer just what Darrow was looking for in the direction of our soccer program. This partnership will elevate our School's program and provide student-athletes with a world-class education. We are incredibly fortunate that USG has chosen Darrow as a partner. Despite having numerous options, it became evident after our discussions that this partnership made perfect sense for both parties. We are confident that this is a significant step forward for Darrow's soccer program."

Darrow School names Head Girls Basketball Coach

New Lebanon, NY, April 12, 2024—Darrow School is thrilled to welcome Abigail (Abby) Streeter, who has had an impressive 16-year career in competitive basketball. For the last two years, she has played professionally for teams in Puerto Rico and Japan; before that, she had six years as a Division I player, finishing with a final season at Rutgers University in the Big Ten Conference, a testament to her exceptional skills and dedication. Now, she takes on the role of Head Coach for the Darrow Girls Prep Basketball team. She brings a coaching philosophy that nurtures a supportive and competitive environment and empowers players to realize their full potential.

Darrow's girls' basketball program is embarking on a momentous journey this year. We are stepping into the highly competitive NEPSAC AA conference for the first time, a move that underscores our team's growth and potential. This conference, renowned as one of the top high school leagues in the country, consistently propels players into Divisions I-III each year. We are thrilled to see our girls rise to this challenge and compete at this elite level.

"One of the most exciting developments for Darrow Athletics is the recent addition of our Girls Prep Team, which marks an exciting new era for Darrow Basketball," said Athletic Director Kris Magargal. "We are thrilled to welcome Abby to the Darrow family; she has an impressive record and a passion for the game. Our basketball programs are deeply committed to the overall well-being of our student-athletes, providing them with comprehensive support on and off the court. They have year-round access to an athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach who reside on campus, ensuring their physical and mental well-being.
