Academic Mentorship is exactly what it sounds like: it is a program of one-on-one or two-on-one educational training sessions that enable students to improve their academic skills.
In the same sense that personal athletic training catalyzes better sports performance, Academic Mentorship brings out the highest levels of effort and achievement in scholastic pursuits. It advances learning through targeted support, ongoing discussion, and assessment of progress.
Academic Mentors are Darrow teachers who understand each student’s individual learning strengths and needs, environmental preferences, language barriers, personal learning history, and long-term goals, and who establish a roadmap for that student’s achievement.
Academic Mentorship may involve any area of study. Regardless of the subject, three key program elements are observed:
Goals are established and connected to strategies for reaching them.
Technology is incorporated to facilitate workflow and build technical literacy.
Time-management skills are reviewed, including how to estimate the time required to complete a task, and how to create the right conditions for doing one’s best work.
