Learning how to learn.

Our Learning Skills Program (LSP) is a powerful tool that empowers students to develop the essential skills and practices they need to thrive as learners. LSP is designed to help students with mild to moderate learning needs, including students who have been formally diagnosed with a learning disability or those who are discovering their needs for the first time. By providing support in various areas, such as time management, understanding instructions, organization, long-term task management, and creating an effective writing process, LSP helps students gain the tools and confidence they need to succeed. Every student has the potential to thrive as a learner, and LSP is the perfect way to help them unlock that potential.

LSP Sessions

Sessions are tailored to meet each student's individual learning needs and experiences. These sessions are integrated into each student's academic day, allowing them to develop effective learning strategies relevant to their coursework and growth requirements. In collaboration with the student, the learning coach will teach techniques based on the student's learning profile, goals, performance patterns, and daily academic demands.

Darrow learning coaches will meet with each student to determine "where they are." The Learning Support Program offers two levels of support:

LSP Intensive

Students who show a certain degree of self-sufficiency will meet twice a week to solidify existing skills and to learn new ones as they work towards achieving increased academic independence.

LSP 2 students to 1 Academic Coa

Students who require a high level of support will meet four times a week to receive guidance in identifying and developing essential skills and Students who show a certain degree of self-sufficiency will meet twice a week to solidify existing skills and to learn new ones as they work towards achieving increased academic independence.

What are executive function skills?

  • Working memory
  • Cognitive flexibility
  • Inhibitory control

With focus, planning, and organization, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Prioritizing tasks, initiating them, keeping your attention on them, and understanding different perspectives are academic skills that can help you achieve your goals. Moreover, mastering the art of controlling your emotions and keeping a check on yourself are not just executive function skills but also indispensable components of a successful life.
