Darrow is a college-preparatory boarding and day school where students are known, challenged, and inspired to grow.
Located between the Hudson Valley and the Berkshires, Darrow combines rigorous academics, meaningful work, creative exploration, competitive athletics, and authentic community across two extraordinary learning environments.
The Mountainside remains the historic heart of the school. The Lakeside expands opportunities for athletics, arts, wellness, outdoor learning, and residential life. Together, they create a more complete educational experience while preserving the values that have always defined Darrow.
OPENED IN 1932
Darrow is the only school in the United States located on the site of a historic Shaker village. The Mount Lebanon Shaker Society was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. Read more about our history.

OUR MISSION
Darrow School is dedicated to serving students with diverse backgrounds and abilities. We build on each student’s individual talents and interests to inspire and build confidence in their success in college and life. This is accomplished through our active, differentiated, inclusive curriculum, which is rooted in the liberal arts and sciences, individually focused, and combines innovative classroom instruction with project-based learning and environmental consciousness.
