Alex Ellsworth is an accomplished music educator and performer dedicated to fostering a vibrant student-centered music culture at Darrow School. Most recently, Alex served as Music Director at Holderness School, where his students continued their studies in programs for instrumental performance, film scoring, and music therapy. His lessons are flexible and inspiring, inviting musicians to draw connections between genres and develop their facility as interpreters, improvisers, and composers. Darrow School concerts are dynamic events showcasing students committed to the arts, as well as those who find their talents after arriving at Darrow School. This year Alex launched the Darrow Sound Academy in collaboration with genre-defying comedian and producer, McQueen Adams. The Sound Academy brings elite industry tools into the hands of students and offers them real professional opportunities in a supportive internship program. Alex is also a critically-acclaimed performing artist, with Emmy Award-winning recording credits, appearances at arts festivals on three continents, and diverse work as a composer. He has toured internationally with cinematic shadow puppetry company Manual Cinema, co-starred in the mid-west premiere of the musical Ghost Quartet, and is a former cellist with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Outside of music, he enjoys soccer, cooking soup, and playing chess. |
